About theEau Claire Overnight Warming Center
In October 2019 a group of concerned community partners and citizens came together to discuss ways to address the growing number of homeless individuals in the Eau Claire community. After much discussion, the group decided to pursue opening a warming center to harbor homeless individuals overnight during the coldest months of the year. This would not replace the other shelters in town but instead help deal with their overflow during these months.
The Warming Center will be at Christ’s Cathedral’s property in downtown Eau Claire. This place was chosen because it is zoned as a commercial property and can be used for such a purpose (per City Zoning Inspector). It is open for use overnight and is heated, which would minimize costs, and more importantly, offer shelter to those in need which fits the social mission of the church.
The Warming Center will be open from December 15th through March 31st from 8pm to 8am and will be staffed by volunteers from the community.
